Adi Veni Madhav

Chakra Tirtha, Near to Fort, Prayagraj

The Origin of Dwadash Madhavas as Twelfth seat of Vaishnavas in Prayagraj. Akshayvat, the legendary mythological and historical tree touches the foundation of Indian culture and tradition. The root of this divine tree is worshiped as Shri Mool Madhava and the divine form located at Arail as Shri Adiveni Madhava.

Prajapita Brahma Ji identified Prayagraj for his Yagna & during Yagna Lord Vishnu was present in the form of Akshay Vat & Shri Mahadev promised to protect the Akshaya Vat. Sage Bharadwas frequently visited Adi Veni Madhav & worshiped it.

If we look at historical evidence, then we find during 8th Century Chandra Dynasty built a spectacular temple which was damaged by Mughals during 18th Century. We also find evidence that many times Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu & Shri Vallabhacharya Mahaprabhu visited the temple. It is said that when Mughals came to destroy the temple, original Adi Veni Madhav statue disappeared which was a miracle to them. Later Maratha Sardar Vithal Shivdev Vinchurkar constructed a new temple near Arail Ghat. Temple has a spectacular view of Triveni Sangam & Yamuna River.

In almost all Puranas, Shri Anant Madhava’s topic was spoken. So it has high importance in Sanatan Mythology. Prayag Shatadhay slokas described the holy place of Ananta Madhav. To save Ananta Madhavas statue from attackers, temple priest brought the statue to his home. Hence main statue is situated at one place & temple is at another place. Shree Gada Madhav

Cheoki Station, Naini, Prayagraj

One of the oldest temples of Vaishnavas located in Cheoki (Naini) area of Prayagraj. The site is keeping the mythological and historical facts related to Dwadash Madhavas (Gada Madhava).

Prayag Shatadhay, Padma Puranas, Patal Khand slokas described the holy place of Gada Madhav. It says, this is the second respected destination of the twelve Madhavas

1300 BC (3300 years ago from today) This place was a stone-built temple of Shri Gada Madhavji, a symbol of Shakti. In that temple, a seven and a half feet high red stone sculpted idol of Shri Gada Madhav was seated. The temple was damaged in the 3rd century by the Buddhists out of enmity and in the 18th century the main statue of this temple was ruined. At present, only a portion of the couple’s feet of Shri Gadamadhav ji remains at this place.

Today the local people have occupied around the temple. So now the danger is neither from Buddhists or Mughals or any foreign terrorists but from our own local people who are tarnishing the glory of such a glorious place. If they keep doing this, then the great heritage of our civilization and culture will not take time to be destroyed.

Come, let us all try something or the other and save the existence of this remaining place for the coming generation.

Later one of the Maratha King built a new temple & kept a new statue of Shri Manohar Madhav Ji which is a replica of original statue. In this neglected Shri Mandir, the artistic statues related to very ancient and historical events have become silent witnesses of the misfortune of ourselves and we dormant Indians. It requires a lot of attention.

Shree Shankashtahar Madhav

Prabhudutt Brahmachari Ashram Centre, Old Jhunsi, Prayagraj

Shri Sankashtahar Madhav ji is a very ancient mythological place. The importance of the Banyan tree Sandhya Vat described in Prayag Shatadhay is no less than that of Shri Akshaya Vat. This place has been worshiped by yogis, sages and divine souls. The existence of Shri Sankashtahar Madhav, Sandhyavat, Hans kup and Hans teerth, who are sitting on the banks of the Ganges in Jhunsi, are themselves in danger today.

In Prayagraj, the glory of two Vata vriksha i.e. Banyan trees are described in Puranas and historical writings, 1- Akshayavat and 2- Sandhyavat.

Pratishthanpur (present name Jhunsi), on the riverbanks of Ganga near Sandhyavat, there was a secret shrine of Shri Sankashtahar Madhav ji, which was serviced and guarded by yogis and Udasin Sanyasi (Udasin ascetics). In about the 17th century, due to lack of proper maintenance, this temple became dilapidated, hence Sanyasis of the temple took the Idol, which was seated inside, with them to the Kanpur and established in the name of Keshavji.

In the existence of the present temple, socialist thinker and Indian freedom fighter Shri Prabhudutt Brahmachari played an important role. Today Shri Madhav and Mata Lakshmi are present in the said temple. At the same time, the beauty of Shri couple forms Radhe-Krishna and Shri Sita-Rama can be seen. It is a serene and picturesque place which will easily fill you with spiritual energy.

Shree Triveni Madhav

Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj

The oldest and greatest Akshayavat needs no introduction. For 6500 years, the greatness of the Puranas Shri Akshayavat has been continuously expounding. It is this Akshayvat who is constantly managing this universe in the form of Shri Akshaymadhav ji. The history associated with them is no less exciting. In the seven signs of Prayagraj, Akshayavat appears along with three Madhav forms. The darshan of Shri Akshaymadhav, venerated daily by Brahma and Shiva, easily leads to spiritual and superphysical progress.

In Prayag Shatadhay slokas of Padma Puran Patal Khand. Lord Vishnu himself said that Prayagraj is more lovable place for him than Vaikuntha & in Prayagraj he is present in the form of Akshaya Vat.

Old Akshay Vat was set on fire by Mughal Emperor Jahangir, it burnt completely for three months but later new plant grown from its root & become huge Akshay Vat tree again. During British time visiting Akshay Vat was banned & after a century Indian Government again opened it for pilgrims.

It is call Triveni Madhav because visiting Akashay Vat will be same as visiting Three Forms of Madhavas i.e. Akshay Madhav (Whole Tree), Vat Madhav / Veni Madhav (Aerial Roots) & Mool Madhava / Adi Veni Madhava (Roots of Akashaya Vat).

Shree Veni Madhav

Nirala Marg, Daraganj, Prayagraj

According to Dwadash Madhav, Balmukund Madhav is seated in this Akshayavat. This is the same place where Mata Sita prayed to the Ganges and Padmaacharya of Jainism also completed his sadhana. To save the earth, Lord Brahma had performed a huge Yagna here. In this yagya, he himself became the priest, Lord Vishnu the host and Lord Shiva became the deity of that yagya. Then in the end all the three deities created a ‘tree’ to lighten the sin burden of the earth by their power beams. It was a banyan tree which is today known as Akshayavat. It still exists today.

Veni means ‘hair’. Hair is a symbol of beauty. Beauty itself indicates sweetness. Sweetness “Madhurya” is Madhava. Vat / Veni Madhav Ji is a physical manifestation of Akshaya Madhav Ji. By the fifteenth century, this place was spreading its aura as the magnificent temple of Shri Venimadhav ji. The great saints of the said period, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Vallabhacharya, used to come to see the Lord. Later, in the 18th century, a devious attempt was made by the Mughal terrorists to destroy the existence of this place by demolishing the temple and the Deity. Today the temple built in the present day and Shri Vigraha-Dwaya (Twin Idol) have maintained the existence of this place. To be honest, out of the twelve Madhavas, the vitality of only this temple of Venimadhav ji remains.

In Prayag Shatadhay slokas of Padma Puran Patal Khand. Lord Vishnu himself said that Prayagraj is more lovable place for him than Vaikuntha & in Prayagraj he is present in the form of Akshaya Vat. Lord also said visiting Akashay Vat will be same as visiting Three Forms of Madhavas i.e. Akshay Madhav (Whole Tree), Vat Madhav / Veni Madhav (Aerial Roots) & Mool Madhava / Adi Veni Madhava (Roots of Akashaya Vat).

It is said that Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu & Swami Tulsidas also visited Veni Madhav Temple during their Prayagraj visit. For more details we request you to visit our YouTube Channel to listen to all great stories of Veni Madhav ji
